Upon completing residency in general surgery and a fellowship in vascular surgery, Dr. Ferrara entered private practice at Fort Worth Lap Band with Dr. Adam Smith. It became clear very early that many patients with severe vascular problems were those who were suffering from the effects of obesity.
Dr. Ferrara recognized that bariatric surgery was a highly effective means of preventing or reversing obesity’s devastating effects. More importantly, it allowed his patients an opportunity to regain control of their lives and return to the activities they love and enjoyed.
Dr. Ferrara studied computer system engineering at the University of North Texas. He received his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. Dr. Ferrara completed his surgical training in general surgery at Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas and then completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Ferrara is now an associate professor in the department of surgery at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Dr. Smith and Dr. Ferrara have over 14 years experience as advanced bariatric surgeons and have performed over 4000 successful lap-band procedures. Fort Worth Lap-Band earned the designation as a Bariatric Center of Excellence from the American Society of Bariatric Surgery in 2009. Dr. Ferrara has been certified as a Bariatric Center of Excellence Surgeon.
“It is my hope as a weight loss surgeon that I can restore a patient’s health now rather than working to save their life later.” -Craig Ferrara, DO, FACOS, FASMBS
