Meet the Fort Worth LAP-BAND® Doctors
Dr. Adam Smith has been an Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon for 13 years. In 2002, Dr. Smith started performing Laparoscopic Bariatric surgeries. After seeing the great success of his patients, Dr. Smith chose the LAP-BAND® procedure for himself, and in 2004 he opened a private practice dedicated to the treatment of morbid obesity.
In 2005, Dr. Smith asked Dr. Craig Ferrara to join him at Fort Worth LAP-BAND®. When asked why he decided to join Dr. Smith’s practice and start performing weight loss surgery, Dr. Ferrara responded, "As a vascular surgeon, many of my patients are people who have lost their battle with obesity."
During his first year at Fort Worth LAP-BAND®, Dr. Ferrara watched Dr. Smith celebrate success with his patients. He saw that weight loss surgery was restoring health to patients that were potential vascular surgery candidates and understood he had an opportunity to treat and beat obesity before the disease caused permanent damage.
It was at this point that Dr. Ferrara knew that he would join Dr. Smith in his fight against obesity and its devastating consequences. Dr. Ferrara continues as a vascular surgeon, however, he hopes that with his new efforts as a weight loss surgeon, he can restore his patient’s health now rather than working to save their lives later.
In the fall of 2007, Dr. Turner Slicho became the third physician to join the Fort Worth LAP-BAND® team. His focus to head up the aftercare program, which is crucial to the success of the Lap-Band patient. Having known Dr. Smith prior to his Lap-Band procedure, he witnessed first hand the life changing transformation he underwent and was eager to join the team to help others make the same wonderful transition.
As a neuromusculoskeletal specialist, Dr. Slicho has seen first hand the stress that an overweight lifestyle will put on the human body, both physically and physiologically. Attacking the problem at the source by giving the patients a proven tool for sustained, long-term weight loss has given many patients a "new lease on life," living a happier, healthier, more active lifestyle without the consequences of excess weight.
